Rice Krispies® Original Squares Recipe

Make Rice Krispies® Original Squares fast and easy. Melt butter or margarine with marshmallows, then mix in Rice Krispies® cereal. Spread in a greased 9x13-inch pan. Let it cool, then cut into 12 bars. Ready in just 20 minutes! Add extra marshmallows for gooey squares. For thicker treats, use a smaller pan. Always check ingredients for allergens. For best results, choose Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml or 1/4 cup

    margarine or butter 

  • 1.25 L or 5 cups

     miniature or 40 regular (250 g pkg) marshmallows 

  • 2 ml or 1/2 tsp

    vanilla extract (optional) 

  • 1.5 L or 6 cups

    Rice Krispies cereal

Directions

1. Lightly grease a 9x13” baking pan. Line with parchment paper for easy removal. Set aside.  

2. Place a large saucepan over low heat. Add the butter or margarine and heat until melted. Add the marshmallows, stir until melted and smooth before stirring in the vanilla extract if using.  

3. Add the Rice Krispies® cereal to the saucepan and stir until well coated.  

4. Empty the saucepan into the prepared baking pan and press into the pan using a lightly buttered spatula. Allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting into bars.

Tip

For extra gooey treats add an extra ½ cup of marshmallows.

Hard to go wrong adding extra marshmallows to this recipe! 

If you make this recipe in a smaller pan, it makes the squares thicker and more gooey.
